We like to collect information on old rail routes and historic railway buildings. Either with the use of (GIS) with open street maps, QGIS or both we use this to draw up maps of routes etc. Sadly, the maps are not satellite ones because of copyright from Bing or Google maps. Street maps however are very good for plotting old routes of disused railways. It was 1960 that seemed to have the most damage to rural lines. Today some lines are made to be cycle tracks or walking paths. There are plenty of books available on lost lines for you to go and explore.
